Abbey Fleck was 8 years old in 1991 when she thought of the concept of a more efficient way to microwave bacon.  Her invention, Makin’ Bacon, is a microwavable bacon rack with dish attached to the bottom for the grease to drip down on.

The patent was granted in 1996.  Walmart required 100,000 racks in order to have the product sold in stores.  Abbey’s grandfather took out a loan to help produce the product.  After the initial distribution, Abbey began to bring in the “bacon” with Makin’ Bacon.  Her invention has been featured in “People’s Magazine,” “Good Housekeeping,” and Dateline.
