Dr. LaLande is a Top-rated Kids Dentist in Las Vegas

Sometimes our kids have accidents. Dr. LaLande, pediatric dentist Las Vegas, has solutions for common emergencies. The very first thing that you should do is stay calm. Figure out how bad the injury is and whether or not it led to a loss of consciousness. Should that be the case, then you need to have your child see a medical doctor immediately. If you are noticing swelling, then apply a cold press to the affected area. Check for missing teeth. If there are missing teeth, collect them and pick it up by the crown, not the root. Rinse it with cold water without scrubbing and then set it in the socket. If, for whatever reason, you cannot place it back in the socket, put the tooth in homogenized cold milk and go to the dentist. Whether or not the tooth can be saved is determined by how long it remains dislodged. Your chances are highest when you can reach a dentist within the first 30 minutes.

As a professional kids dentist Las Vegas, Dr. Lalande can help you with fractured and chipped baby teeth as well. If the fracture extends to the nerve inside the tooth a baby root canal may be performed. This simple operation is not as extensive as an adult root canal performed on a permanent tooth. Depending on the location of the fracture, whether or not it is below the gum line, after removing the tooth, a spacer may be placed to prevent the teeth from drifting into the open space that should be left for the permanent teeth.

Pediatric dentist Las Vegas, Dr. LaLande, works with infected teeth that cause an abscess or gum boil. In this scenario, the nerve inside the tooth has begun to decay, and the tooth cannot be saved. It must be removed to protect the permanent tooth from being infected.

Toothaches are a common occurrence, and should be first addressed by cleaning the area around the tooth. Then, using warm salt water, rinse the mouth and floss to get rid of any food that is stuck between the teeth. Don’t put anything else on the gums or tooth, including aspirin. Aspirin irritates the gums. If you notice swelling, place a cold pack outside the face.
