Nitrous oxide, which is also known as laughing gas, is a mild form of sedation that helps children with anxiety and nerves feel comfortable and calm at Children's Dental Care & Orthodontics. When your child receives nitrous oxide, they will be able to relax so Dr. Carla LaLande can perform the treatment safely and comfortably without any danger to the child or doctors.

The sedative is released through a small mask that will be placed over your child’s nose. It is mixed directly with oxygen. When your child breathes in and out regularly, the gas will take effect and your child will feel more relaxed.

This sedative is safe and will be eliminated from the body once the gas is turned off. When using this sedative, your child will remain awake and will be able to communicate with you and the dentist.

Before administering the sedative, our dental team at Children's Dental Care & Orthodontics will review your child’s medical history, level of anxiety, and form of treatment to determine if this is the best sedative for your child. If it’s not, we can discuss alternative options with you.
