When your child comes into Children's Dental Care & Orthodontics to restore a tooth, Dr. Carla LaLande and our dental team do everything we can to make sure your child has a comfortable dental appointment as well as a positive dental experience. With your help, this is possible.

While you’re talking to your child about this visit, please avoid using negative words like pain, hurt, needle, shot, pulled tooth, etc. It’s best to use words like fun, easy, tooth asleep, silver star, water spray, etc. If you use upbeat and positive words, there is a higher chance your child won’t feel unnerved or frightened.

When you’re at our office, Dr. Carla LaLande will explain the entire treatment to your child so they know what to expect. Because our doctor is a pediatric dentist, he knows how to painlessly deliver a local anesthetic. If necessary, he will also use oral sedation or nitrous oxide sedation to help your child feel calm and relaxed during the treatment. After the treatment is completed, our dental team will place a “tooth pillow,” which is also known as a gauze pad, on or around the surgical site to stop any bleeding and prevent dental injury.

On your way home from our office, make sure you use positive words and praise your child. This will help them understand that there was no need to be nervous or afraid.
