Does getting your kids to their annual dental checkups sometimes feel like a lot more work than it’s worth? If you answered yes, then you’re like a lot of the other parents we see in our practice.
There is some good news about all of this, though – it’s possible to help your kids love the dentist. It just takes a bit of creativity on your part. But that’s what parents are best at, right? Being creative?
Well, take a look at the few tips we have to help your kids learn to love the dentist.
Focus on the rewards
One of the best things you can do to help your kids look forward to a dental office visit is to focus on the rewards they earn after going. Whether it’s a prize or toy from the doctor’s office, or you take them out for a special treat afterward, having a positive incentive after the appointment helps out tremendously when motivating kids to enjoy the dentist.
Talk to them about oral health
If your kids are old enough, talk to them about why it’s important to brush, floss, and visit Dr. Carla LaLande and the team at Children's Dental Care & Orthodontics in Las Vegas, Nevada. Preventing cavities and keeping a mouth healthy is something a lot of kids – even young ones – can understand.
Be an example
Lastly, make sure that you practice what you preach. If your kids see you taking care of your teeth – and visiting the dentist yourself – they’re much more likely to enjoy their time in the office.
